From the beginning, the Tiffany Blue Box has been instantly recognisable and synonymous with the designer jewellery brand - Tiffany & Co. Rooted in the vision of Charles Lewis Tiffany, this iconic box is more than just packaging; it's a symbol of dreams, aspirations, and the promise of something extraordinary. But what is the story behind this well-known colour?

Tiffany Blue box

At first glance, the Tiffany Blue Box entices you with its beautiful hue—a captivating shade of 'robin's egg blue' that exudes charm and sophistication. The box itself is crafted with high-quality materials, boasting clean lines and a sleek design that adds to its enchantment. Its satin ribbon, tied delicately in a bow, adds a touch of femininity and elegance, hinting at the treasures that lie within. Whether receiving a Tiffany and Co. ring box or necklace box, it will feature the Tiffany blue colour which this iconic brand is recognised for. The Tiffany blue box is made from sustainable packaging and although the aesthetics have remained the same throughout the years, Tiffany constantly updates their packaging to ensure they are keeping pace with modern standards and sustainability goals.

“Though it debuted over a century ago, Tiffany’s iconic packaging evolves with the times. In 2022, all Tiffany Blue Boxes and bags were sustainably sourced and crafted with more than 65% recycled content.” – Tiffany & Co.

The History Of The Tiffany & Co. Box

The history of Tiffany Blue dates back to the 19th century when Charles Lewis Tiffany, the founder of Tiffany & Co., sought to create a distinctive brand identity. In 1845, the company introduced its first Blue Book, a catalogue of its handcrafted jewels, made with this striking blue cover. The selection of this distinctive colour was a deliberate choice, reflecting the fashion sense of its time. Blue jewellery was very common during the 19th century, with turquoise gemstones often given to wedding guests as tokens of appreciation. The shade was officially trademarked as "Tiffany Blue" in 1998. The trademarking of "Tiffany Blue" marked a pivotal moment, cementing its place as a colour, and synonymous with luxury, elegance, and the unparalleled craftsmanship of Tiffany & Co.

Trademarked 'Tiffany Blue'

This distinctive hue, officially known as "1837 Blue" after the year of Tiffany's establishment, is a trademarked colour by Tiffany. Recognised globally for its timeless appeal, the Tiffany Blue evokes a sense of sophistication and refinement. Pantone, the standardised colour matching system, has even recognised its significance by creating a custom colour, "PANTONE 1837," to honour Tiffany's contribution to design and culture. Beyond its role as a trademarked colour associated with the renowned jeweller, Tiffany Blue has woven itself into global culture, resonating with individuals who aspire to a life of luxury. From runways to interior design schemes, the Tiffany Blue hue serves as a symbol of status and sophistication, displaying a sense of nostalgia and aspiration.

The Tiffany Blue Box Café

In recent years, Tiffany & Co. has brought the magic of the Blue Box to life in an entirely new way with the opening of the Tiffany Blue Box Cafe. Located in the flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York City, this charming cafe offers the opportunity to dine in luxury surrounded by the iconic Tiffany Blue. Upon entering Tiffany’s blue box café NYC, guests are greeted with elegance and sophistication as they are surrounded by the famous blue colour and a Tiffany Blue Box themed room. The decor pays homage to the brand's heritage, with touches of Tiffany Blue in every corner. From the table settings to the signature Tiffany Blue velvet banquets, every detail has been created to make an unforgettable dining experience.

The menu at the Tiffany and Co. Blue Box Café features a selection of elevated classics, inspired by the glamour of the Tiffany brand. Guests can indulge in breakfast favourites such as avocado toast with poached eggs or indulge in afternoon tea with a selection of finger sandwiches and decadent pastries. Each dish is artfully presented, ensuring that every meal is as visually stunning as it is delicious. Due to the success of the Blue Box Café in New York, Tiffany opened the Tiffany Blue Box Café at Harrods London where you can experience the same level of luxury and enjoy the food with the Tiffany and Co. box all around.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s

No discussion of the Tiffany and Co. packaging would be complete without mentioning its iconic appearance in the classic film, "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Released in 1961 and based on the novella by Truman Capote, the film follows the glamorous adventures of Holly Golightly, portrayed by Audrey Hepburn. One of the most memorable scenes in Breakfast at Tiffany’s features Holly enjoying breakfast outside the Tiffany & Co. flagship store in New York City, gazing into the iconic storefront window while sipping coffee and eating a pastry. Her elegant attire, complete with a little black dress and pearls, perfectly complements the Tiffany Blue Box that she holds in her hand—a symbol of her desire for a life of luxury and sophistication. The film not only solidified Tiffany & Co.'s status as a symbol of elegance and glamour but also immortalised the desire of the Tiffany Blue Box.

Tiffany Jewellery

Many of Tiffany’s jewellery designs also feature the iconic blue colour with beautiful designs that are well-known and highly desirable. Given with every purchase, all of Tiffany’s jewellery is packaged in a blue Tiffany jewellery box and bag, whether ordered online or bought in-store. This signature hue not only enhances the desire for their precious jewellery but also serves as a testament to Tiffany's commitment to exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail. This commitment to consistency and quality shows Tiffany's dedication to providing a seamless and luxurious experience for each customer. From the moment they make their purchase to the unveiling of their jewellery piece from within the Tiffany packaging, they are reminded of the luxury brand by its prominent blue colour.
